Reynolds, who currently manages business retention visits, industrial recruitment, workforce initiatives, grant writing, board coordination, incentive negotiations, strategic planning, website content, conference travel, and approximately 11 ongoing crises, reportedly learned of the new assignment halfway through a ribbon cutting.
“Economic development and tourism are basically the same thing,” explained one council member who once stayed at a Hampton Inn near an interstate. “It’s all marketing. How hard could it be?”
Sources confirmed the city reached the decision after noticing Reynolds already knew how to use Canva and had once posted a Facebook photo without being asked.
In addition to attracting corporate investment, Reynolds will now oversee:
Destination branding
Restaurant week
Holiday parades
Hotel occupancy reporting
The farmers market
“Finding influencers”
A new slogan initiative
And possibly redesigning the city seal “if time permits”
Coworkers say Reynolds initially believed the tourism assignment would involve coordinating with local hotels before discovering she is now personally responsible for “creating vibrancy.”
